GoPro HD Chest Cam

Chest Cam from Warren Bosomworth on Vimeo.

We did a bit of shooting with the GoPro HD using my new chest adapter kit to try get a different perspective than the the normal helmet cam angle. We shot the footage forward facing and also backwards by reversing the chest strap which turned out some interesting footage for editing.

The original was shot at 60fps 720p but iMovie doesn't ouput this resolution so its only at 540p...but i have to say i am very impressed with the performance of the camera. Next time i will check it out an 1080p 30fps. More shooting to come on this in the future! - wazza

Stage 1 Build - Semnoz Secret Location

Me and Dane had the chance to spend the afternoon in the semnoz last saturday build and maintaining some parts of the trail, we came across a nice section of terrain with a nice gradient and a big old rock that was sitting there at the top. So we decided to re-route the trail for about 20 metres so that we could have the opportunity to hit the rock drop. The rock itself is about 1 metre high with a 2 metre length to the landing, we needed to create a better entrance to the rock so Dane used is building skills to lay a few foundations and a good solid mud pack on top. Sorted!
I continued down the trail to prepare the landing area and the rake away all the debris, rocks, logs etc...to create a nice pathway that joined back onto the main trail further down. So we were pretty happy to get this sorted in around 3 hours, just in time for the dusk sun to start coming through the trees creating the perfect lighting environment for shooting. So after the build we managed to try it out and get a few nice shots before heading down into annecy for an ice cold Tanqueray and tonic.....just intime for the Annecy Fete du lac that night. What a day!!!! - wazza

Since Ive been in France ive been searching for my perfect trail to ride. After hitting so many of the bike parks around the alps with the luxury of the lifts i was convinced that it would here where i would find this dream trail. I was wrong!!! Its sometimes easy to overlook something that is right on your doorstep and thats exactly what i did. Yep i finally found it.....the dream trail lies right on my doorstep....its the semnoz secret trail build by the local riders. Its has everything you could dream of from fast smooth single track down into steep technical rock sections.....its about a 10 min decent, but just enough to get the adrenaline going and the wind blowing through your t-shirt. Freedom!!!!

Heres some pics to show you how lucky we are! - wazza

My New Customised Lid

I managed to get hold of a load of cool salomon freeski logo stickers and thought it could be quite cool to custom paint my sixsixone helmet. This is the final outcome, it took only 2 hours to sand, wet n dry the old paint of and re-spray with this satin finish black. Will be testing it out this weekend as the dirrty summer crew head off down to Finale ligure for a weekend of Sun/beaches/fine italian food/ice cold beers and some top quality shreddin. Will report back next week. peace out! - wazza

UCI DH World Cup, Champery Saturday

Word Up,
We headed over to Switzerland on Sat to watch the highly anticipated World Cup Race in Champery. As has been the case over the last few months, rain seems to get in the way when planning biking trips and the race qualifying on Friday was no exception. Looking at the video on Dirt website it looked at times like a raft would have been better equipped to deal with the conditions.

It seemed like most of the riders would have preferred the rain to continue on Saturday, in the hope of maintaining speed. Unfortunately it didn't and by the time we arrived at the top of the course amidst the clouds, the track was drying into a thick slurry of sticky bogg - the kind of shit you lost your wellies in when you were a kid! Proper Crud people.

We arrived, after getting off the giant gondala and wandering around with 10 other folk completely lost with no signs to the Race, around mid table - seeing Mick Hannah leave the Gate around 14:55. It was only then, when walking down the track you got a sense of just how Feckin STEEP this thing was - with some HUGE double drop jumps, that most riders were clearing and surfing the sea of shit beneath their tyres. Cant emphasise enough how difficult, technical and fast this course was, especially with the conditions. I think it was Greg Minnaar who described it as a Scalextric track, based on the giant grooves which had appeared. But he obviously had a big dog that dumped on his track as well.

Anyway, it was a great atmosphere and brilliant to watch all Big Guns not being phased by the conditions. Well done to Gee for the win and Brendog in 3rd. C'mon Peaty - lets have a podium this season!

Results:
1. Gee Atherton
2. Greg Minnaar
3. Brendan Fairclough
4. Spagnola

Here are some images from the day and Wazza shot some vid which we'll cut later and post on. This was definitely Dirrty Summer. Dan

Afternoon in La Clusaz

We spent the afternoon last sunday in la clusaz, we chucked the bikes on the roof of the diesel dog and headed up there around 1pm with the plan to meet up with Arnaud and Thomas...a couple of dudes from salomon and mavic. We didn't manage to hook up with arnaud until the last run of the day but we managed to hit a good 5 runs with thomas. He showed us some of the hidden freeride tracks of the back side of cret du loup, they were awsome!! steep, technical with super soft dirt and knarly switchbacks. Dan..ger managed to do one over the handle bars straight into a tree on one of the steepest descents ive riden, even with full brake lock...you weren't stopping, and to add to that the large rocks with 50cm drops didn't really help that much.

We also tore up the crete du loup track and the 4x track which is just dreamy to shred, sooooo fast and bermy with smooth jumps and sweet transitions. Just a shame the section is so short, but i guess nothings perfect right!

For the last run we hit up the northshore section in the forest with arnaud, we spent about 1 hour in there just messin around on the drops and ladder bridges...while doing a bit of filming with the 550d. Good fun and we got a few nice shots.....still learning alot about the settings of this camera but its starting to look pretty decent. We used mainly static shots on the tripod with a few short pans....but the real exciting stuff will come at the end of this week. We just received the glide track yesterday from scotland...its a 75cm smooth glide system thats gonna gve some cool effects to the camera movement when were next out shooting. So Tignes at the end of the week, free lift passes, 2 days shreddin', sunshine, ice cold beers!!! lifes good! - wazza

Just a few short clips of the shots we got

Morning Testing with the 550d

We had a couple of hours saturday to have a test with the 550d, we were using the 50mm f1.8 lens. filmed in 720p 50fps, but editing through iMovie doesn't allow us to see the advantage of the 50fps with slow motion shots, that will come soon in FCP. So we discovered it is harder than we thought to have the right focal point with the 50mm lens, plus with the bright sun not so easy to see the lcd screen to know if you are in focus or not, so it was an interesting experience. But even though these are the first shots with the 550d, i can really see the potential this camera has in movie making and can't wait to get back out and learn more about it. Hopefully next week we will be back on the rigs for a day in the semnoz shooting some great 1080p 30fps flicks.....check back soon - wazza

Supersonic Films Goes TruHD 1080p

Supersonic films has recently upgraded to HD in the form of the CANON Eos 550D. So we will be shooting on full glory 1080p 24 fps on all upcoming vids, so get ready to be blown away. The new hardware also allows us to do 720p at 60 fps so super detailed slow motions coming soon. To be honest i dont know what to expect with this new kit, but we will be testing it out this weekend and hopefully getting some really nice material together......we will see!

Also in addition we will be using final Cut Pro instead of iMovie, so hi quality 16:9 output with hi-quality H264 compression......can't wait to see what we can achieve with this....fingers crossed! - wazza

BLEEDING BRAKES - HOPE for us all.

Did my first successful brake bleed of Hope Mono M4 rear brake yesterday. Basically after reading through the overly complicated Bike Maintenance mag (which would have you buying every tool known to man) and the shite instructions on the Hope Brake bleeding kit, which requires attaching to a car tyre with 20-25 psi (pretty hard to park on wazzas balcony) - I ignored the lot, used an empty water bottle instead of a syringe and levelled the top brake lever horizontally by eye - All guided by these two old Welsh fellas armed with vidoeo cam (see link below), who managed to do it in t Kitchen - Cheers innit! Balcony however does have some small alien-type blood holes from brake fluid spillage. Keep it Layman's people. Hutch

Le Semnoz Cont...

Well last night was well and truly a baptism of fire! Hands down the most gnarly (USA USA!) track i've ever ridden, made Scotland look like a mole hill with tea and crumpets (only bread ones) at the base. That said, it was good to ride with some serious local talent in the form of friend of Salomon, David, tour guide for the night and quick-as mother f**ker. Wazz did well keeping up and i'm just glad I can put the being out of the comfort zone experience into shredding the other trails with some more speed - oh fo sho. Also pleased the sixsixone helmet was mint at breaking speed on rocks with no noticeable damage to user or product - Salut! Images and video to follow. Looking forward to CHAAAA-TELL this wkd....Yes. Word. Hutch

Mid Summer Nights

Left work early yesterday and headed to Davids house to load up the rigs, the three of us planned to rip the Semnoz again! We headed out to quintal to drop the cars before the climb to the top of the mountain. We managed to get some good chest cam footage in the first two runs. It was just awsome conditions, fast, backend drifting...just a dream!!

We headed back up to hit the run on the other side of the semnoz that drops down into sevrier.....the last time i hit this was in autumn and i remember it was almost impossible to stay on the bike, i must have stacked about 6 times in one run...so i was a little hesitant about this track. BUT...I can honestly say it is one of the best tracks i've shredded, in perfect conditions like last night it just doesn't get much better than this, Technical and rocky....with fast flowing singletrack sections, freeride drops...and the evening sun shining through the trees...what can i say!!!

Sometimes its hard to believe that this is right here on my doorstep! - wazza
